DAWG - WILD BLUE
When I have the occasional fruit beer, I don't like to mess around — I like bold flavors. A common disappointment with many fruit beers is that they don't follow through — they have more of a fruit-like flavor than the taste of the actual fruit.
That can't be said about Wild Blue. This is a beer that is bursting with blueberry flavor and aroma.
Wild Blue is made by the Blue Dawg brewery, which is owned by Anheuser Busch, better known as the maker of Budweiser. Don't let prejudice against an international megacorporation prevent you from trying this above-average fruit beer.
Apparently there is great hatred for this beer from some online quarters. I discount many of these opinions, however, especially since some of the reviews start by complaining about the color of the beer. Of course it's purplish red — it's a blueberry beer! Why would the color offend
anyone?
Another common complaint is that the beer's blueberry flavor tastes fake, or like soda. I didn't think so at all — after subjecting myself last year to a series of horrible lemon and orange beers, Wild Blue tasted very natural to me.
It is certainly sweeter than the average beer, but not so sweet that it steps into Kool-Aid territory. The blueberry flavor does overpower the malt and hops, but I don't buy a fruit beer to appreciate the grains in
it.
Wild Blue also has a nice solid mouthfeel and an
8 percent alcohol content that helps make the beer substantial.
Since Wild Blue is an Anheuser-Busch product, it should be readily available throughout the country.

Isenhower Cellars:
Isenhower Cellars is the first Washington winery to blend the white Rhone grapes
Roussanne and Viognier. 100% fermented in stainless steel tank (no oak) allows the
flavors from the vineyards to shine.Seeking a life that harnessed their combined backgrounds in chemistry and business,
Denise and Brett Isenhower spent two years researching where to make wine in the
Western United States. Washington was selected because it is the most entrepreneurial
region to craft world-class wine. In 1999 the Isenhower’s founded Isenhower Cellars in
Walla Walla because it is the most attractive town in Eastern Washington.
Denise and Brett built their winery in 2002 on six acres of farmland south of Walla
Walla. The initial planting of the Isenhower Estate Vineyard was two acres of Malbec
(2008) with more acreage to follow. The
Isenhower's long-term goal is to grow half of
their own grapes and purchase the remainder from their outstanding vineyard partners.
Tasting Notes
Chardonnay: This chardonnay exhibits classic notes of pear,
pineapple, and crisp apple flavors. It finishes
with a creamy texture and hint of crème
brulee. Food Matches
Chardonnay: Great as
an Aperitif, or pair with mild
cheeses and light fish dishes. Tasting Notes
Red: Full bodied fruit flavors of cherry and blackberry, with balanced oak character. Finishes
extremely smooth and balanced with tannin and a hint of
toffee.

Guide Review - Tasting Notes and Review for Budweiser American Ale from Anheuser-Busch
First Tasting - from a bottle at Anheuser-Busch's tasting room in St. Louis, Missouri, May 2008. The brewmaster told us that this wasn't necessarily the final recipe. The beer pours with a thick, rocky head that sits atop a very clear, copper body. Its aroma is mostly sweet malt with some citrusy hops apologetically peeking through. The flavor follows this theme with strong, nutty malt flavors dominating and some hops. The ale is drinkable but could easily become cloying after a couple.
Second Tasting - from a bottle at my home. It was shipped to me from Anheuser-Busch in August 2008 in anticipation of the September 2008 release. The ale pours with clear, light copper body, lots of big bubbles and a medium off-white head with some rockiness. The nose is mild and malty with hints of fig. Tasting the beer presents the expected straight ahead maltiness. But this malty beginning is pierced by a bright hoppy finish that lingers on the tongue. Well balanced and very enjoyable. Upon this tasting I upgraded my rating from 2.5 stars to 4.

This classic Bordeaux blend shows amazing power and finesse at such a youthful stage. It’s a magnificent Cabernet with loads of black fruit and hints of dried herbs, olive and sage aromas. On the palate, inviting flavors of currant, ripe black plums, blackberry and roasted oak awaken your senses. Supple and ripe tannins surround a firm structure and lead to a deeply extracted and lengthy finish. Sure to be a classic.

Chateau St. Jean’s flagship Cinq Cépages has become a Sonoma County classic... The wine is frankly gorgeous and absolutely serious, bursting with vivid and vibrant cassis, black cherry and plum fruit that feels sifted with smoke, dried spice and glittering minerals that are enmeshed, in turn, in polished oak and chewy, grainy tannins. That tannin manifests itself in wheatmeal and walnut shell elements that bring some asperity and austerity to the wine from mid-palate back through the finish. A perfect wine for a grilled, medium-rare rib-eye steak, hot and crusty from the hickory coals.

The 2005 vintage saw winter rains leading into a dry, mild March. Rains late into the growing season delayed bloom and set in the vineyards. A cool summer with few heat spikes followed by a warm September and October delivered nearly perfect conditions. Harvest was later than usual, providing extended hang time that resulted in excellent sugar development and balanced acids in a larger than average crop. The grapes for the 2005 Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon were handpicked between October 12th and November 17th.
Winemaking
With Cabernet of this quality, the winemaking team believes in taking a minimalist approach to winemaking. Vinifying the fruit from each vineyard separately, Ed and Laurie used tailored pump-over techniques for optimal extraction, and then aged the wines in hand-selected, custom-toasted barrels of new French Nevers oak. They then aged the lots separately for just under two years before selecting the blend – one of exceptional depth, complexity and elegance. The final blend has aromas of Bing cherries, cocoa, cedar, allspice and mint. Generous cherry, blackberry and plum flavors are complemented by velvety tannins, resulting in a superbly long and elegant finish. - Laurie Hook, Beringer Vineyards Winemaker

The Substance of Our Style
Our focus is small production, single vineyard wines from properties we feel are the most distinctive in their appellation. We strive to create exuberant, intensely flavored, richly textured wines of structure and balance, that reflect the specific personality of each vineyard site.
Our winemaking begins with constant, meticulous care in the vineyard in order to cultivate in the resulting fruit the richest yet most
nuances are expressions of
the terroir. Soil is prepared, vines are pruned and crops are thinned throughout the growing season to maximize concentration and flavor development in the grapes. We strive to achieve what is called physiological ripeness, which takes into account not only the fruit but the stems, skins and seeds, all of which must be fully ‘ripe’ to make a truly superior wine.
We harvest and sort our grapes by hand, allowing them to go through primary and secondary (malolactic) fermentation using native, or wild, yeasts that come in on the skin of the grapes. Skin contact is maximized during winemaking and the whites are pressed whole cluster and stirred sur lies, which allows for increased complexity in the resulting wine and imparts phenolics and textural components particular to each vineyard site. Wines are aged in hand selected French oak barrels until seamless integration is achieved. They are then bottle unfined and unfiltered to assure that nothing is lost in the translation from vine to glass.
You might describe our winemaking as modern classic. Making wine, like living well, is a balance of experience and intuition, discipline and discovery. We believe we can make the best wines by keeping our roots firmly planted in traditional winemaking principles, while availing ourselves of modern techniques which allow us to constantly improve the quality of our wines.

The work at LA SPINETTA is dedicated to the vineyards, which we treat with the utmost care, attention and respect, especially in regards to agronomy and production quantities. By using no or the least possible amount of chemicals and by keeping our production relatively small (only 17-20 hl (1.7 -2 tons) per hectare), we put 90% of our effort into our vineyards. We are aware that the vineyards have long existed before LA SPINETTA has begun to make wine and they will survive us.
Not having inherited our land through generations of winemakers, our vineyards were carefully selected. All of our vineyards have south, south-east or south-west exposure and the vines are mostly of old age (35-65 years). Only vines of substantial age are able to give mineralogy, longevity, complexity and terrain character to the wine. Vines of younger age, we only use to make three wines: Barbera Cà di Pian, Langhe Nebbiolo and Il Nero di Casanova.

Carlson Craft Brewery is a small artisanal microbrewery located in the shoreline town of Branford, Connecticut. It is run by local residents Andrew and Gretchen Carlson.
We brew in the “Real Ale” tradition where the beer ferments in its packaging container to give a natural carbonation. Most beers are artificially carbonated with carbon dioxide before they are packaged. Our beer is unfiltered, so its flavor is not stripped away by filtering out all of the taste. This leaves a layer of yeast on the bottom of the bottle or cask. This yeast is not harmful, and it actually has important vitamins in it if you drink it. You can look at the proper pouring technique on our FAQ page.
We believe in the enjoyment and enhancement of food through its proper pairing with beer. Look for us at local restaurants and ask them for their
recommendation of which beer pairs with their particular dishes.
Carlson Craft Brewery tries to be a good environmental citizen. The majority of the barley and wheat malt used in our beers are organic and non-organic malt is only used when there is no readily available malt of a type needed in the recipe. We use all
fluorescent bulbs in the brewery and get 100% of our power from Sterling Planet who provide wind, hydroelectric, and landfill gas energy from local and regional sources. All cleaners and sanitizers we use are environmentally friendly. We make an attempt to purchase
recycled items when possible and we recycle as much of our waste products as possible. Spent grain from the brewing process is given to local farms for feed and compost.

Gammal Öl (Old Ale)
is an English Style Old Ale. This Old Ale has a malty base and is gently hopped with English Hops. The ale has more body and depth than the English Style Bärnsten Öl but still holds true to my philosophy of session style beers with its lower alcohol level. This beer is made with` a mixture of Pale Ale and Chocolate malts and is 90% organic.

Pairs well with red meats, hearty dishes, and I like it with about anything.
Vëte Öl
is an American Style Wheat Ale made with 100% Organic Barley and Wheat malt from the Gambrinus Malting Co.. Cascade and US Tettnang hops provide the American hop character to balance the malt.
5.0% ABV
Pairs with lighter food such as chicken, salad and seafood.
Bärnsten Öl is a beer that falls into no particular style and can be best described as an English Style ale. It was created to be liked by most everyone with moderate maltiness and bitterness. It is made from 90% organic barley malt and wheat from the Gambrinus Malting Co.. We use English and Continental hops to create its hop signature.

Pairs well with a wide range of food, pretty much any kind of meat including chicken, burgers, seafood and salads.
