Thanksgiving dinner brings lots of flavors to the plate. Whether your dinner is traditional or not,
you might be treated to dishes that range from spicy to sweet to savory.
Wouldn't it be nice to find a single
wine that is versatile enough to handle all these various flavors? This brings us to
Tempranillo, which happens to be the most important Spanish red grape, and it is also emerging with
increasing regularity from
America's west coast wineries. Tempranillo (especially the domestic variety) is both earthy and fruity, with
plum and berry flavors that may also be accompanied by a degree of
spiciness, food-friendly acid, and
forgiving
tannins. This wine goes equally well with
turkey as well as cranberry sauce.
HINT:
Tempranillo is usually
blended with other grape varieties and is the major component of the well-known
Rioja wines.
