Cake Malbec
History:
Jayson Woodbridge, known for his critically acclaimed wines under the
Hundred Acre and Gold labels, is introducing a new series of estate grown
wines handcrafted by his new winery, Pure Love Wines, priced for everyday drinking at
around $20. The grapes are grown
on his estate and Woodbridge's and his
partners' very personal philosophy about non-interventionist
farming and what goes into making an outstanding bottle of wine.
"The wines have distinct personalities, both in terms of how they taste and how
they'll resonate with different
people," says Woodbridge, speaking of the
wine he has named Layer
Cake. "For instance, Layer Cake is a tribute to my grandfather, who always said that the
layers of soil in which a well-made wine lives were like a layer cake, providing rich and spicy flavors of fruit,
mocha and chocolate...always rich. "At their core, though, the
wine is
"Deep, rich, layered and complex with lush black fruit, fine-grained, soft tannins and just a touch of French oak, they
reflect the varied terroir, red mineral-rich soils and extremely dry climate of this dramatic and resilient
landscape."
Tasting
& Varietal Notes:
The wine has a dense, purple core with a brilliant red rim. Black fruit is abundant in the nose followed closely
by anise, chocolate and very pleasant touches of spice. Soft, lush and fragrant, Layer Cake Malbec is an intense
mouthful of fruit-driven wine, finishing with very soft tannins. Delicious!
We allow Layer Cake Malbec to ripen thoroughly on the vine. This, our first vintage Layer Cake Malbec, was
harvested nearly a month to six weeks after all other neighboring vineyards; a crucial element to the
wine's quality. Each cluster, once harvested by hand, is then destemmed and sorted
- also by hand
Food Pairing:
This Red is
awesome
with pretty much anything, just my
opinion,
I had tried
this in Cape Cod over the Summer
and had to bring it to Pond Point
